I hate quoting myself. Usually when I go back and refer to something I’ve written in the past, there’s some comment attached about how my touching tribute to some legendary artist is flawed because it was based more on feeling than cold, thirst-quenching fact.

Anyhow, I caught Local Natives this past fall during CMJ, and I could already tell:

“The spry rhythms and lovely harmonies of Local Natives on “Airplanes” fought back my urge to throw my trail mix at their low-slung v-necks (what is it with these shirts?!), and ensures that they’ll be at Vampire Weekend-level hypesterization once their self-titled album comes out in the U.S.”

No matter that there are several clause issues and “spry rhythms” doesn’t make much sense anyhow — the current “hypesterization” applies. Get more about Local Natives and how they got big overseas before all the hullabaloo here in my Best of What’s Next feature for Paste.
